A statement

There's an article on page 2 of today's Financial Times that reports on the jailing of Gillian Gibbons in Sudan over the teddy bear fiasco. Much of the article focuses on British diplomatic efforts, and specifically on objections our foreign office has made. But it finishes on this conciliatory note:

"Mr Milliband also set out the UK's 'real respect' for Sudan's Islamic religion."

Well, I would like to state, for the public record, that I have no respect for it whatsoever. I think it is a barbaric, backwards ideology the world - and indeed Sudan itself - would be much better off without. In fact, its very existence brings me to a spluttering rage.

Since this post is a statement of opinion rather than an invitation to debate, I have turned off comments.
